RMAP: a rectangular cuboid approximation framework for 3D environment mapping

چکیده
This paper presents a rectangular cuboid approximation framework (RMAP) for 3D mapping. The goal of RMAP is to provide computational and memory efficient environment representations for 3D robotic mapping using axis aligned rectangular cuboids (RC). This paper focuses on two aspects of the RMAP framework: (i) An occupancy grid approach and (ii) A RC approximation of 3D environments based on point cloud density. The RMAP occupancy grid is based on theRtree data structurewhich is composed of a hierarchy of RC. The proposed approach is capable of generating probabilistic 3D representations with multiresolution capabilities. It reduces the memory complexity in large scale 3D occupancy grids by avoiding explicitmodelling of free space. In contrast to point cloud and fixed resolution cell representations based on beam end point observations, an approximation approach using point cloud density is presented. The S. Khan (B) · D. Evaluation of the RMAP occupancy grid and approximation approach based on computational and memory complexity on different datasets shows the effectiveness of this framework for 3D mapping.

Approximating Smallest Containers for Packing Three-Dimensional Convex Objects
We investigate the problem of computing a minimum volume container for the non-overlapping packing of a given set of three-dimensional convex objects. Already the simplest versions of the problem are NPhard so that we cannot expect to find exact polynomial time algorithms. We give constant ratio approximation algorithms for packing axis-parallel (rectangular) cuboids under translation into an a...
متن کاملWeighted Rectangle and Cuboid Packing
Given a set of rectangular items, all of them associated with a profit, and a single bigger rectangular bin, we can ask to find a non-rotational, non-overlapping packing of a selection of these items into the bin to maximize the profit. A detailed description of the (2 + )-approximation algorithm of Jansen and Zhang [8] for the twodimensional case is given. Furthermore we derive a (16 + )-appro...
متن کاملLocalizing 3D cuboids in single-view images
In this paper we seek to detect rectangular cuboids and localize their corners in uncalibrated single-view images depicting everyday scenes. In contrast to recent approaches that rely on detecting vanishing points of the scene and grouping line segments to form cuboids, we build a discriminative parts-based detector that models the appearance of the cuboid corners and internal edges while enfor...
متن کاملBoundary Shear Stress in a Trapezoidal Channel
This paper focuses on a hydraulic radius separation approach used to calculate the boundary shear stress in terms of bed and wall shear stress proposed in a trapezoidal channel. The average bed and sidewall shear stress in smooth trapezoidal open channels are derived after using Guo & Julien (2005) early equations taking a part of an investigation to cover both rectangular and trapezoidal chann...
متن کاملThe O-Sequence: Representation of 3D-Dissection
A 3D-dissection (A rectangular solid dissection) is a dissection of a rectangular solid into smaller rectangular solids by planes. In this paper, we propose an O-sequence, a string of representing any 3Ddissection which is dissected by only non-crossing rectangular planes. We also present a necessary and sufficient condition for a given string to be an O-sequence. key words: rectangular solid d...
